Areas of Practice

Tom was previously a solicitor at a leading North West law firm before transferring to the Bar in 2010. Tom has always practiced exclusively in family law.

He is a matrimonial specialist and has a wealth of experience in divorce and financial remedy work. As a solicitor he specialised in high net worth cases and he continues to undertake such work at the Bar. He is regularly instructed in cases where the assets are of significant value including pensions, companies and trust assets.

Tom also deals with cohabitee disputes and applications for financial provision for children. He is regularly called on to advise on and draft pre and post nuptial agreements.

In addition, Tom represents clients in all areas of private and public law children matters.

In private law proceedings Tom represents parents, extended family members and guardians in applications for child arrangement orders. In recent times he has conducted a number of cases concerning leave to remove from the jurisdiction.

Tom was Junior Counsel for the successful appellant in the Court of Appeal in L (A Child) [2016] EWCA Civ 1297.   
    
Tom also has an interest in public law proceedings and regularly represents parents, extended family members and guardians. He has experience of cases involving significant and complex issues concerning non-accidental injury, neglect and sexual abuse. He was recently led by John Vater QC in the High Court before Sir Mark Hedley, representing a father facing the most serious allegations of sexual abuse and grooming.
Tom is highly respected for his robust advocacy and strong negotiation skills. He adopts a pragmatic approach to cases and is commended for his written work.

Tom is fully qualified to accept instructions through the Public Access scheme.
