Specialist groups in commercial, catastrophic and really serious injury, clinical negligence, employer’s liability, industrial disease and employment.
The department has almost 50 barristers across all levels of seniority - junior counsel, senior junior and leading counsel.
Civil expertise includes all types of common law work. All aspects of personal injury, including catastrophic cases, industrial accidents and disease, are dealt with, as well as clinical and professional negligence, including legal and surveyor matters. All types of contract and commercial work are handled, together with landlord and tenant matters, environmental nuisance and employment cases, immigration, redundancy, dismissal, and sex and race discrimination. Planning cases are handled, as well as product liability actions, insurance, liquor and betting licensing, mental health, housing, and welfare law.
The department undertakes all forms of written work as well as court work and conferences and barristers will travel to see the client in conference where appropriate as well as attending at the offices of instructing solicitors. The department also offers a video conference facility and barristers also often hold telephone conferences by way of BT conference facility.
The department regularly provides continuing professional development by lectures and seminars (which are accredited for CPD) for solicitors both in chambers, at solicitors offices and at other venues.
