The Family Law Group at 7 Harrington Street Chambers is widely recognised for its dynamic and forward-looking approach. Our areas of expertise include:

Public Law

Public law proceedings are varied in nature, and include all manner of applications where the question of a child’s welfare has been engaged, and a local authority has become involved.

Members of the Team appear in the Family Court on a daily basis, and are well equipped to deal with the various applications made by local authorities in public law proceedings, including applications for:

  • Supervision Orders (where a Local Authority advises, assists and befriends a child);
  • Care Orders (where a Local Authority shares parental responsibility for a child);
  • Placement Orders (where a Local Authority is permitted to place a child for adoption);
  • Emergency Protection Orders (where a Local Authority is authorised to remove a child to chosen accommodation, or prevent a child being removed from accommodation);
  • Deprivation of Liberty Orders (where a local authority is authorised to deprive a child of their liberty, subjecting them to supervision and control); and
  • Secure Accommodation Orders (where a local authority is authorised to place a child in secure accommodation).
