Family Law
Georgia has experience in public law children matters representing local authorities, parents, parties acting via the Official Solicitor, and children via their guardians. She has appeared in a range of hearings such as contested removal hearings, case management hearings, issues resolution hearings and final hearings. Within these matters, Georgia has handled issues such as ill treatment, chronic neglect, physical abuse, domestic abuse, emotional abuse etc. Georgia is keen to develop her practice in respect of deprivation of liberty to lend itself to her interest in Court of Protection.
In private law children matters, Georgia has represented parents and 16.4 children’s guardians from FHDRA through to contested final hearing in child arrangement disputes including special guardianship applications, specific issues, prohibited steps, and enforcement applications.
Court of Protection
Georgia has a developing Court of Protection practice with a particular interest in health and welfare matters. Georgia has, for example, represented Clinical Commissioning Groups in applications pursuant to s.21A Mental Capacity Act 2005. During pupillage, Georgia shadowed a range of Court of Protection and inherent jurisdiction matters from the perspective of all parties (including P, local authorities, children through their guardian, and CCGs), including contentious medical treatment decisions (i.e. the administration of COVID19 vaccines to vulnerable adults), capacity disputes, fact-finding hearings, and deprivation of liberty applications.
Georgia is an active member of Amicus ALJ, delivering training and webinars to prospective death penalty defence interns, as well as assisting in delivering capital defence training within the Bryan R. Schechmeister Death Penalty College at Santa Clara University, California. Additionally, Georgia sits on the Leadership Committee of Black Women in Law.
