Maxwell has extensive civil law experience and has undertaken small claims, fast track, and multi-track trials.

Crime

Maxwell acts in complex, multi-day trials and is regularly instructed for both the prosecution and defence in the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court. As a Level 2 CPS panel advocate, he has experience across a broad spectrum of criminal work, from serious violence and drug trafficking to motoring offences and Proceeds of Crime matters. He is valued for working effectively with solicitors and providing thorough, practical advice.

Practice Overview

Maxwell was called to the Bar in 2019 and joined 7 Harrington Street Chambers after completing his pupillage under the supervision of Emma Fisher. He maintains a busy mixed practice, with advocacy and advisory work in both criminal proceedings and civil litigation.

In crime, Maxwell appears regularly in the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court in cases involving drugs, violence, dishonesty, and motoring offences. He is experienced at all stages of proceedings and is frequently instructed in confiscation matters. He has acted as led junior for the prosecution in a multi-handed conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs and as junior counsel in a complex fraud trial.

In civil matters, Maxwell has experience in trials of varying complexity and value. His practice includes personal injury, credit hire, and a range of contractual and property disputes. He is regularly instructed to advise, draft pleadings, and appear at trial, and is valued for his efficient turnaround of paperwork and pragmatic approach to case preparation.

Civil

K v E: Acted for the Claimant in a Stage 3 hearing, beating the protocol offer and securing favourable costs consequences.

 

T v S: Successfully represented the Claimant in a Band 2 Fast Track trial involving high-value credit hire.

 

A v P: Two-day multi-track employer’s liability trial concerning work equipment, training, risk assessments, and allegations of dishonesty.

 

A v K: Complex relief from sanctions application arising from proceedings in the Damages Claims Portal.

 

C v R: Represented two Claimants in a Fast Track road traffic accident trial.

 

 

Crime

Operation Fig: Led junior to Matthew Conway in the prosecution of four defendants for conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs.

 

R v J: Defended a client charged with s.47 assault at Bolton Crown Court; unanimous Not Guilty verdict returned by the jury in under an hour after a four-day trial.

 

R v O: Defended in a five-day Bolton Crown Court trial involving fraud and possession of false identity documents; the case resulted in a mixed verdict and immediate release from custody.

 

R v H: Conducted a two-day special reasons appeal at Liverpool Crown Court.

 

R v K: Represented two defendants in a two-day s.47 assault trial at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.
