Pupillage Timetable

7 Harrington Street Chambers is an Authorised Education and Training Organisation (AETO). We are currently recruiting for one mixed pupillage (Crime, Family, and Civil) to commence in September 2026.

While our standard intake is scheduled for September 2026, we recognise that exceptional candidates may be on differing academic or professional timelines (for example, those not completing the BPC until 2027).

We encourage all high-calibre applicants to apply regardless of their immediate availability; for the right candidate, Chambers is willing to consider a deferred start date. If this applies, please make this clear on any application.

Our Philosophy

We recruit with a view to tenancy. Our aim is to provide a broad-based, practical education that prepares you for a successful career at the Bar. We wish to ensure our pupils develop their own practice during the “Second Six” months, supported by a regular flow of work and dedicated mentorship. We endeavour to maintain a flexible approach towards policy / practice areas which is regularly under review.

Application Process

7HS manages its own pupillage application process, independent of the Pupillage Gateway. To apply, you must use our specific application form.

Successful applicants will first be invited to a first-round interview. Those advancing to the second round will be contacted shortly thereafter. Pupillage offers will then be made in accordance with BSB guidelines.

Application Timetable (2026 Round)

We operate a recruitment process independent of the Pupillage Gateway, though we adhere to the mandatory Bar Council timetable:

  • 24 November 2025: Advertisements published for review.
  • 05 January 2026 (11:00 AM): Applications open. [See above to download the 2026 Application Form].
  • 22 January 2026 (11:59 PM): Deadline for submissions. No late applications will be accepted.
  • 20 February 2026: Shortlisted candidates notified.
  • March 2026: First-round interviews (held over consecutive weekends; dates TBC).
  • April 2026: Second-round interviews (dates TBC).
  • 08 May 2026 (09:30 AM): Offers Day. Successful candidates will be contacted in accordance with BSB guidelines.

Funding & Earnings

Our policy is that a funded pupillage will be no less than the minimum award recommended by the Bar Council. The pupillage award will take the form of a grant for the first six months of pupillage and a guarantee as to fees earned from instructions received in the second six months of pupillage.

Equality, Diversity & Social Mobility

7 Harrington Street Chambers encourages and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.

We believe the Bar should reflect the society it serves, and we thrive on the diverse perspectives of our members.

  • Inclusive Recruitment: We use anonymised sifting processes to minimise unconscious bias. Our criteria focus on demonstrable talent and potential rather than background or connections.
  • Accessibility: We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those from groups currently under-represented at the Bar. We will make any reasonable adjustments required for the application or interview process—please contact us to discuss your needs.
  • Scope: While we are a quintessentially Liverpool set, our practice areas are not defined by geography. Our members are regularly instructed in high-profile and complex matters across the North West and throughout the England and Wales. Choosing pupillage at 7HS means joining a set that offers the best of both worlds: the collegiality and tradition of the Liverpool Bar and the Northern Circuit, alongside a wide-ranging and varied practice.

Mini Pupillages

We offer mini-pupillages to provide a genuine insight into life at the Liverpool Bar and Chambers. Please email Chambers Administrator, Keith Whalley, for further details – keith.whalley@7hs.co.uk

Please note that Lincoln’s Inn have launched a Mini Pupillage Grant Scheme.

The Mini Pupillage Grant Scheme offers financial assistance to students who have secured a mini pupillage but need additional funds to complete it. The fund is intended to help with the cost of long distance travel, commuting, accommodation and purchasing appropriate professional clothing. The value of each grant is calculated based on the applicant’s anticipated expenses up to a maximum of £500.

Applicants do not need to members of Lincoln’s Inn and must meet certain social mobility based criteria to be eligible for a grant. More details including all of the application criteria and application form can be found on this page

Applications are currently closed and will resume in August 2026.
